The Welly Taproom, 9 Green Street, Bath
We were appointed as Architects for the transformation of The Welly — a former sports bar — into a contemporary taproom and small-plates venue for Somer Valley Brewing.
The project reimagines the venue as a warm, characterful space that reflects the brewery’s “farm-to-glass” ethos while respecting the heritage of this historic Bath setting. At its heart is a bespoke bar featuring 25 custom-designed beer fonts and accompanying light box Beer Board, surrounded by flexible seating, natural materials and soft, layered lighting to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
The scheme was developed in collaboration with Supple Studio, who led the wayfinding and graphic design, and Simon Spilsbury, whose artwork brings energy and personality to the interior. The project was expertly delivered on site by Ken Biggs Contractors with metalwork by Hopefield Fab.
The result is a vibrant, community-focused taproom that blends Bath’s architectural character with contemporary craft beer culture.
